Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Sorority: We Dare to Be Different Since 1988

For Immediate Release

August 27, 2015

(New Brunswick, NJ) - Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Sorority has always dared to be different. From our roots at Rutgers University to present day, our mission has always been to promote diversity by being an example on the campuses and communities in which we reside.

Omega Phi Chi was established on November 9, 1988 at Rutgers University in New Jersey by eight women leaders of Asian, African-American, and Latina descent. Our founding mothers were an active group of leaders at Rutgers who felt the absence of any organization on campus that spoke to their needs across diverse backgrounds, distinct cultural roots and a commitment to womanhood. They worked together to found Omega Phi Chi, a multicultural sorority not categorized by ethnicity or culture. They dared to be different.

Our organization embodies Diversity at its Finest® and the philosophy that “from the seeds of diversity grows the true meaning of sisterhood."

Omega Phi Chi and its members strive to make a difference through leadership within their campus, community and careers. By empowering women to be the best they can be and to set and achieve their own personal and professional goals, our sisters have gained the confidence to conduct themselves as leaders and to hold leadership positions within their campuses, communities and professional workplaces.

To further that idea, Omega Phi Chi announces its 2015 campaign, Premier Organization for Young Women Leaders, which is designated to highlight and promote emerging leaders within our communities and encourages sisters to develop as leaders within OPC. All of our chapters will host a program this academic year that focuses on a young woman leader on their campus.

In 1998, Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Sorority as an organization demostrated our leadership capabilities by becoming founding members of the National Multicultural Greek Council, the national governing council for multicultural and multi-ethnic fraternities and sororities.
