OVERSEES OPERATIONS

National Board Overview

The National Board of Directors of Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. is the formal governing body that oversees all organizational operations as well as strategic implementation to uphold our mission. It is comprised of a group of alumnae leaders with varying expertise committed to the success of Omega Phi Chi. Board members are successful women within their careers and their communities who implement their experiences into guiding, teaching, and empowering our members using their networking, personal experiences, and organizational knowledge.

Annual Projects

Along with various community service and philanthropic projects, the National Board of Directors plans and implements two main annual projects. Click below for more info.

Awards and Recognition

The National Board of Directors awards recognition to chapters and individual sisters that have flourished within the organization and outside in their personal lives. These awards are presented each year at the Soft Elegance Banquet or at Founders Day events.

 

Sisters are recognized for the following:

  • Membership Certification | completing all requirements to be come a Sophisticated Sister

  • Silver Academic Certificate | obtaining a semester GPA of 3.5-3.99

  • Gold Academic Certificate | obtaining a semester GPA of 4.0 or above

 

The following awards are presented to individual sisters on behalf of the National Board of Directors:

  • Sister Community Service Award | undergraduate sister who has completed the most hours of community service

  • Onyx Award | alumna who has exibited outstanding professional and personal achievement

 

The following awards are presented to chapters on behalf of the National Board of Directors:

  • Chapter of the Year | chapter that has made outstanding contributions and accomplishments 

  • Most Improved Chapter of the Year | chapter that has made the most progress for the year over the previous year

  • Chapter Community Service Award | chapter that has completed the most hours of community service

  • Sisterhood Award | chapter that exemplifies what it means to embody true sisterhood

National President

Crystal was initiated in Fall 2011 at Nu Chapter, Rutgers University- Newark, where she obtained her bachelors degree in Public Administration and Non Profit Management. She has held several positions as an undergraduate and has served on the National Board of Directors for the past six years as Director of Retention, Director of Membership and National President. Crystal currently resides in Florida.

National Vice President

During her undergraduate years in the sorority, Averi served as Treasurer, Fundraiser Chair, and Academic Dean. After joining Omega Phi Chi, Averi admired how active her fellow sisters were within the campus and went on to join various other student organizations and was elected into the Student Government Association. After graduating, Averi continued to be committed and active in the sisterhood and maintained both personal and professional relationships with sisters. Due to this, she was awarded Alumna Sister of the Year in 2019.  Averi received her Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in LGBTQ Studies and her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Averi currently works as a licensed therapist.

National Secretary

Vanessa Garcia was initiated as Founding Sister #4 of Upsilon Chapter at Purdue University in the Summer of 2015. During her undergraduate career she was Public Relations officer, Dean of Recruitment and New Member Educator. She graduated in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership & Supervision. Currently, Vanessa works for a Beauty Consumer Company in their Human Resources department.

National Director, Treasury

Clarrissa obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and Strategic Media in Fall 2006. She went on making great use of her degree by serving on the National Board of Directors and Alumnae Board of Directors from 2008 through today, holding various positions. Clarrissa has also obtained her Masters of Information Systems Management at Keller Graduate School of Management and currently works in her field of study as an IT Consultant for a Seattle-based consulting firm. Clarrissa has an entrepreneurial spirit. She owns and runs a size-inclusive online women's clothing boutique. In her free time she blogs and does freelance copywriting. She is a published poet who enjoys music and traveling. Clarrissa is originally from Brooklyn, New York currently residing in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.

National Director, Public Relations

Karishma was initiated into the Alpha Chapter of Omega Phi Chi with 8 other women in the Spring of 2014 at Rutgers University New Brunswick. During her undergraduate career she served as Academic Dean, Fundraising Chair, Vice President, and New Member Educator. She graduated in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. After graduating she moved to North Carolina to attend Duke University where she obtained a Master of Engineering degree. While at Duke Karishma remained active in Fraternity & Sorority Life through her position as a Graduate Assistant Advisor for the Multicultural Greek Council. After graduating she moved to California to work as an engineer at a Medical Device company. Her passion for the organization as an undergraduate and her belief in potential of all of her sisters is what inspired her to become the Director of Public Relations.

DAVIS

Upsilon Chapter

Summer 2015

National Co-Director, Recruitment

Jordan was initiated as a founding sister into the Upsilon chapter of Omega Phi Chi in the summer of 2015 at Purdue University. During her undergraduate career she served as President, Secretary, Academic Dean, Dean of Recruitment, and New Member Educator. She graduated in August 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology. Upon graduation Jordan returned to the tri-state area and continued to show support to the sisterhood by being an involved and active alumna. Jordan currently works as an Executive Assistant at a hedge fund in Connecticut.

National Co-Director, Recruitment

Melonnie was initiated in Spring 2016 at Montclair State University and further emphasized the need of intelligent and multifaceted women of diverse cultural backgrounds. With the undergraduate leadership positions of President, Vice President, and Academic Dean, she was able to understand the purpose of leaving an initial imprint of cultural integrity and awareness at her university. She achieved both a Bachelor in Biology and Master in Business Administrations at her Alma Mater. Melonnie focuses her career in quality management to create and add to quality implementation practices for healthcare systems. With her professional endeavor in mind, she seeks to implement and install ways to further improve and diversify recruitment for dedicated women to continue the mission formulated by the founding mothers and other sisters who paved the way. Melonnie plans to continue to form genuine connections going forward and make unforgettable memories. When she’s not trying to master the tree pose as a third year yogi, she reads mystery books, religiously makes tea, and is on the hunt for new trends found on YouTube

Alpha Chapter

National Director, Membership

Ajeé Schaeffer was initiated into the Alpha chapter, at Rutgers University New Brunswick, of Omega Phi Chi in the Spring of 2014. During her undergraduate career Ajeé held positions within her chapter as well as on the Multicultural Greek Council at Rutgers University. In May of 2016 she graduated with a degree in Linguistics and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Ajeé has been a member of the National Board of Directors since May of 2016 as the Director of Retention and Resource and now as the Director of Membership. Beyond Omega Phi Chi, Ajeé works as a logistics associate overseeing Debate, Dance, Music, and Theatre programs for a network of 46 schools. Her passion for closing the educational achievement gap and her love of performing arts makes her career extremely meaningful and impactful. As the National Director of Member, Ajeé strives to improve the membership process as the trends of Greek Life evolves, while maintaining the organizations traditions and integrity.

Asia was initiated into the Alpha Chapter of Omega Phi Chi in Spring 2016 at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. As an undergraduate sister, she served as chapter Public Relations Chair. In August of 2018, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies and Dance. Currently, she works as a Social Media Specialist for a non-profit trade school in South Jersey.
