WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Upsilon Chapter at Purdue University received five awards at the 2016 Greek Gala hosted on April 5 by Order of Omega and Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life (FSCL).
The five awards earned are:
Fall 2015 Excellence in Service Award
Excellence in Leadership Development
Excellence in Chapter Pride
Multicultural Greek Council Chapter of the Year
Multicultural Greek Council Best Program (First Annual Young Women Leaders Banquet)
Interim President of Upsilon Chapter, Vanessa Garcia, self-nominated the sorority for the Multicultural Greek Council Best Program to FSCL weeks prior to the Greek Gala.
As for the other four awards, FSCL deemed Upsilon Chapter worthy within the entirety of Purdue’s Multicultural Greek Council.
“At first, I was just extremely proud that four women could do something so big,” said Jordan Davis, President of Upsilon Chapter. “And I was so thankful for the support of our organization to shape us because it has shaped us into stronger leaders not for ourselves, but for the Purdue community.”
“Being such a new organization on campus, it’s exhilarating to know that the Purdue Greek Community recognizes our hard work,” Garcia said.
The four Founding Sisters made it a goal to put on at least three events per month no matter how busy life got in order to gain respect and recognition on Purdue’s campus and Greek Community.
“There were times I wanted to quit,” said Assem Imangaliyeva, Founding Sister, Secretary and Dean of Recruitment of Upsilon Chapter.
All of the Founding Sisters’ hard work paid off by earning the most awards within Purdue’s Multicultural Greek Council at Purdue’s annual Greek Gala.
