Omega Weekend 2014: Keynote Speaker Announcement
The 2014 conference committee is pleased to announce Honorable Founding Mother Stacy Richardson as keynote speaker for the annual 2014 Omega Weekend being held in Washington, D.C. Thursday, July 31st through Sunday, August 3rd, 2014.
Stacy Richardson, Founding Mother Number Four of Omega Phi Chi Sorority, Incorporated, graduated from Rutgers New Brunswick in May 1991 with a Bachelors degree in English and a minor in African American Studies. Her first job out of college was at Polygram Records as the office manager in their credit department.
Born in Washington, D.C. she moved back to her home state in 1993 where she began working for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) within an International Business Exchange Program. Discontinuation of that program led her to look into other possible career venues. She took interest in Information Technology (IT) and while taking classes, began her path within her current career working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 1993. Working her way up the ladder from IT help desk to end user computer chief, she now supervises a team of five help desk technicians. Stacy’s department is responsible for providing support for the FEMA call center. When a national disaster strikes and the government decides where FEMA money is most needed her team assures all IT related facets are working cohesively so that FEMA funds are distributed expeditiously and accordingly.
Being the only African American female in her entire department, as well as working in a male dominated industry has propelled her to work even harder in an effort to break the gender bias. Founding Mother Four will bring an empowering perspective on how women should approach the workforce.
Stacy asserts, “I want our sisters to know they will always have options. Just because you have a degree in one area doesn’t mean you should narrow your window. Keep an open mind and a new path may present itself. It may be one you were always meant to follow.”
