Walk NJ
Sisters
and friends will be joining together to raise money for the Hyacinth
AIDS Foundation in New Jersey by participating in their annual NJ AIDS
Walk. Omega Phi Chi has been an ongoing contributor to this
community event.
HIV/AIDS
continues to be a serious epidemic around the world affecting children
and adults alike from Africa to India to the United States. In New Jersey,
numbers of individuals infected with HIV/AIDS continues to rise and
it is critical that the community recognizes the importance of providing
services to those in need. Omega Phi Chi is proud to contribute to this
worthy cause.

Regional
Lynx Outing
Sisters
and Omega Phi Chi interests known as Lynx, spent a winter day together
traveling New York that culminated in a festive ice skate in Central
Park. The day began as a typical cold winter day on the East Coast
with recently fallen snow blanketing the cold city streets. The sisters
traveled to various college campuses in New Jersey and New York picking
up the lynx for a joint ride to Central Park. The ride to Central Park
gave Sisters and Lynx enough time to converse and get to know one another.
After a
group of twenty five finally assembled, they headed on to the most well
known park in New York. Everyone enjoyed hot chocolate, ice skating
and taking in New York. Omega Phi Chi hosted the full event and typically
holds regular Lynx outings to allow interests the opportunity to get
to know the sisters and the organization.
Annual
Multicultural Talent Show & Exhibition
After eight
years the Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Talent Show and Exhibition has
evolved and grown into an integral event of the Rutgers college community
with audiences of over 300 people. The evening was filled with a flare
of cultural performances that ranged from Latin salsa to Asian modern
dance to contemporary hip hop. Individuals gathered at Busch Campus
Center in Piscataway to enjoy a truly diverse program that included
rock, rap, and poetry in one night.
The
evening began with a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner
sung by our very own Carmen Delia Torres, who then later sang a musical
piece by Shakira. The stage was filled with much movement and physical
activity when Capoiera, an Afro Brazilian martial arts, was performed
by Rutgers Capoiera Club. Three performances included variations to
Salsa, a popular Latin American dance. The event was brought to an exciting
height when RAPS, a Filipino organization on campus, took the stage
to perform an innovative hip hop dance performance.
Soft
Elegance Banquet
On Omega Phi Chi's Founders Day, sisters gathered for our annual banquet
to celebrate a thriving sisterhood. The night was filled with dancing,
awards, great food, entertainment, and fun. This year the annual banquet
was held at the Grand Chalet in Wayne, NJ. Sisters arrived from different
states around the country for the formal event.
The
banquet always takes place during our Founders Week, held in high regard
as an event that acknowledges and celebrates the successes of Omega
Phi Chi Sorority. It is a time for formal recognition of the great individual
contributions to the organization as well as the overall accomplishments
of the sisterhood.
