Omega Phi Chi, Incorporated
Multicultural Sorority

Founded on Diversity
Omega Phi Chi is a multicultural sorority that was established on November 9, 1988 at Rutgers University in New Jersey by eight women of Asian, African-American, and Latina descent. Our eight founding mothers were an active group of young women leaders who felt the absence of any organization on the Rutgers campus that spoke to their needs across diverse backgrounds, distinct cultural roots and a commitment to womanhood. They came together to found a multicultural sorority, a different type of organization, that would not be categorized by ethnicity or culture.

Cultivating a Strong Sisterhood
From the seeds of diversity arose a sisterhood based on the common bond of womanhood. Our founding mothers cultivated a sense of female empowerment and recognition of the richness and strength found in coming together as women united. In particular, Omega Phi Chi is a sisterhood that is not related to any male organization but that stands proudly on its own.

Our Purpose
Our purpose is to generate unity among all women by fostering a sisterhood based on honesty, loyalty, respect, responsibility, academic excellence, and involvement in community service.

Branching across New Jersey and beyond
As the sisterhood has expanded, we have maintained a close-knit organization committed to its principles through planned and steady growth. We have established chapters at Rider University, New Jersey City University, Seton Hall University, William Paterson University, The College of New Jersey, Ramapo College, Kean University, SUNY-New Paltz, Barry University, Arizona State University & Montclair State University. We continue to extend our reach and to grow.
